It was a beautiful day today so we took the opportunity to head to the park after church and Chloe's nap. The girls had a great time (as usual)! Chloe was so cute when she slid down the slide to her big sister. She had such a big smile on her little face to see Lia waiting to catch her as you can see in one of the pictures.
We had a chance to visit with our dear friends Bill and Alma this weekend as they were visiting my parents for a couple of days. Bill is one of the pastors that married us fifteen years ago and Alma did all the flowers for our wedding. And we share an anniversary day with them. We've been married for fifteen years and they have been married for forty three years! So it was very special for us to be able to introduce Chloe and Lucy to Uncle Bill and Aunt Ollie. They already knew Lia from us visiting them a couple of times when she was a little girl. We all went out to dinner to celebrate everyone's anniversaries since my parents anniversary was yesterday May 25th and Julie and Bill's anniversary is May 9th and the rest of us were May 21st. What a fun evening!
Dan planned a special getaway for us for our 15th anniversary and the girls stayed with their Nana and Papa. We got home late tonight and found a special surprise waiting for us! Yes, Wooley had finally emerged from his cocoon and become a beautiful rust colored moth! I seriously thought that Wooley wasn't going to make it and mentally I had given him one more week before Lia and I were going to cut his cocoon open and see what had gone wrong. He had been in there for over three weeks which seemed like way too long! But it just goes to show you that you should never give up because look what happened. Here's the best picture I could get of Wooley tonight before we set him free. Lia and I have been amazed at God's amazing handiwork in something as small as a caterpillar turning into a beautiful moth! Oh and another insect update - we let the ants go free in the woods behind our house before we left this weekend. We felt like we had observed them long enough and we knew that if we kept them in captivity they would only live for 2-4 weeks but in the wild they would live up to a year. So good luck little guys :)
Well I haven't posted in a while - sorry! It's been a busy couple of weeks for us!!!! So I'll try to do a general update of what we've been up to. You'll see a couple of pictures of Lia from when we went on a field trip. Oh and less I forget, happy birthday today Daddy!
Today was Chloe's first bike ride in our Burley. Lia wanted to ride with her so poor Dan had to pull about 65 pounds of little girls + the weight of the Burley. Luckily he's strong : ) Chloe seemed to enjoy herself other than the fact that her helmet was too big. She just has a tiny head so even though the helmet we had from when Lia was little is adjustable, we still couldn't get it small enough for her. But she looked darling anyway as you can see from the pictures!
Our little caterpillar friend Wooley kind of feels like our fourth pet lately because we've had him all winter and we're busy watching all the changes he's going through. Lia and I tried unsuccessfully to move his habitat outside. We put him into a plastic container and poked holes in the top and put him outside in the shade. Unfortunately we then had monsoon rains and poor Wooley almost drowned. Luckily I went out to check on him and found his house overcome with water. But he was still alive so we brought him in the house and put him in the butterfly cage we got to do our butterfly experiment that was part of our school for this year. I spoke to a lady at a local place where they raise butterflies in the spring and asked her what we should do with Wooley. I told her he seemed uninterested in eating and she said he was probably ready to spin his cocoon and that we should not worry about it and just watch what would happen. Sure enough, Wooley headed to the top of the net enclosure and stayed there for a day or so and then began spinning a spider like thread and shedding some of his hair to make a cocoon. Here's a picture of what he looks like now. I'm sorry if it's difficult to see but I had to be very careful not to disturb his cocoon when trying to pull the lid back to get the picture. We'll keep you updated of our Wooley's progress :)
